Chain wax is an alternative to traditional oil-based chain lubricants, it applies as a fluid but dries to a clean wax film that attracts significantly less road dirt and grit than oil-based lubes. This makes it the preferred choice for road riders who want a clean chain that doesn't fling black grease onto the rear wheel and swingarm. The Bike Yard Kenya stocks chain wax from Motul and Putoline at prices from KES 1,400 to KES 3,200. Apply to a warm chain after riding, allow the carrier solvent to evaporate fully (approximately 5 minutes), then wipe off any excess. Reapply every 500–700 km on clean roads. Note: chain wax is not the best choice for sealed O-ring or X-ring chains where a penetrating oil-based lube serves the rollers more effectively, our staff can advise based on your chain type.
